LOWER HOSPITAL PARKING RATES ALREADY OFFERED AT SMGH

Ontario hospitals that charge more than $10 a day for parking were advised Monday to immediately freeze rates, and to start offering multi-day discount passes by Oct. 1.
This advisement does not apply to SMGH, as a maximum daily rate of $7 ($3 less than the imposed limit) and multi-day discount passes are already offered. In fact, SMGH offers patients and visitors with the following discount parking pass options:

• Daily Pass (with in and out privileges): $7.00
• Week Pass (with in and out privileges): $25.00
• 10 Visit Pass (with no expiry date): $30.00
• 30 Day Pass (with in and out privileges): $45.00

“We realize that in certain cases, hospital patients or visitors cannot afford to pay the cost of parking,” says Sue McLean, SMGH Foundation CEO.  “Anyone who cannot pay their parking fee is encouraged to stop in the at the Foundation office; we will ensure that it is taken care of.”
Revenue generated from paid parking at SMGH directly supports the purchase of new patient care equipment.  This is an important source of revenue, as the Government does not provide funding to Ontario Hospitals for medical equipment or supplies of any kind.
